China paid first Tiananmen victim

China has paid compensation to the mother of a young man who was killed in the suppression of the 1989 democracy movement, marking the first known case of its kind, an activist said yesterday. Tang Deying, a resident of the south-western city of Chengdu, received $8,750 dollars for the loss of her son Zhou Guocong in the bloody events 17 years ago.
