Officials Break Leg of Petitioner Begging at Tiananmen Square
Civil Observation
A petitioner from Dandong, Liaoning Province, Wang Guiying, suffered a broken leg after official petitioner interceptors beat her while she was begging at Tiananmen Square.

Wang said public security police noticed her begging on the evening of December 16 and alerted officials at Dandong City's Beijing office, which sent three staff to Tiananmen Square to remove Wang. While they were taking Wang away in a vehicle, the officials scolded her for harming China's image by begging at the Square, and they began to beat and kick her so savagely that she had to be taken to the hospital, where she was found to have a broken leg. Dandong officials have refused to pay for Wang's medical treatment, saying they only have funds to send her back to Dandong. Now completely immobilized in Beijing in a room rented by her sister, Wang is reportedly suicidal with despair.
